Abstract

Full-scale field tests for a billboard sign with dimensions of 24'-7 wide x 12'-31/2 tall x 5'-8 3/4 deep (7.49 m x 3.75 m x 1.75 m) is conducted at the Wind Science and Engineering (WISE) field site located at the Reese Technology Center in Lubbock, Texas. The sign is supported on one pole with a clearance from the bottom of the sign to the ground of 12'-31/2 (3.75m). Gust factors for the determination of pseudo steady coefficients, as well as force and torsion coefficients for the sign are presented. Gust factors computed from field data show significant scatter. Force coefficients for the sign are typically less than those reported from wind tunnel studies.
