Abstract

In this paper, we analyze and model the operation of prioritized contention access (PCA) devices in the presence of the distributed reservation protocol (DRP) devices in high rate WiMedia networks. The analysis model is basically based on a Markov chain concept, yet the Markov chain concept itself has a limitation that the dependency among Markov chains, representing PCA devices, caused by PCA transmission deferment during DRP intervals cannot be reflected in it. We analyze this deferment phenomenon of PCA transmissions due to the existence of intermittent DRP intervals, mathematically formulate it, and supplement the Markov chain-based model by this formulation. Analytical results obtained from the proposed model agree more precisely with simulation results compared to those from conventional one and show that the saturated throughput of PCA devices decrease as the intermittent DRP intervals occur frequently.
