Abstract

Volume and enthalpy recovery measurements were performed on a polystyrene sample to study the physical aging behavior. The polystyrene was isothermally aged at temperatures near Tg for times ranging from 300 seconds up to several days. The volume and the enthalpy decrease during physical aging and level out at thermodynamic equilibrium. The times required to reach equilibrium are identical for both properties within experimental error of the measurements.
