Abstract

A case study is used to demonstrate a procedure for developing criteria for the strengthening of an existing structure in order to mitigate damage from a tornado or other high winds. The tornado hazard probability, the appropriate level of risk, the associated tornado wind and pressure parameters and the necessary protective barriers are considered. Recommended design criteria are tabulated. (A.J.)
