Abstract

Performed "Excavating Character" program, which included a world premiere of a commissioned work for solo tuba ("Excavations for Solo Tuba" an original graphic score by TTU alumnus Micah Hood) and two multimedia commissions (a photo roman by TTU alumnus Sean Kennedy and a photo essay by TTU alumnus Tif Holmes). The entire program featured visual elements, and two works included fixed audio. Other composers presented were Henri Tomasi, Eduardo Nogueroles, Claude Debussy, Joanna Ross Hersey, and Libby Larsen, and other performers included James Decker, Bruce Keeling, Patrick Perry, and Susan Wass.

I chose to list this under research and creative activity due to the innovative nature of the program and the commissioned music and media. I also feel it is important to expose TTU students to the important trend in solo and chamber music programming of including multimedia elements.
