Abstract
Tolerance chain method has been used for tolerance verification in process planning. However, we found that it can only be used for certain manually operated machining. It is too conservative for numerically controlled (NC) machining, is ambiguous for NC programming, and overshadows the advantages of NC machining. In this paper, we are presenting a tolerance analysis method, which is different from the traditional tolerance chain method, for verification of generated process plans for NC machining. It takes the advantages of NC machining, facilitates NC programming, and makes manufacturing more economical.
