Abstract

Choreographer Genevieve Durham DeCesaro probes archetypes of femininity that continue to infuse and inform the way women, in general, are represented in mass media. Questioning a socially normalized tendency to identify women only in relationship (or lack thereof) to their male partners, DeCesaro uses slapstick physicality to challenge her audience to confront this problematic practice and take action!
