This paper introduces college-level geography students to the International System of Units (SI), which is a standardized set of units used in science, engineering, and commerce. The system is based on seven base units from which all other units are derived. There are precise rules for using and writing SI units which should be followed, as proper use of SI in geography and related disciplines facilitates communication and reduces wasted effort at converting units. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
