Abstract

Texas, We’re Listening, was a small group Show with Alex Macias (Assistant Professor of painting University of Arizona), and Joe Harjo (Professor of Art, Southwest School of Art) at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, Brownsville, TX. September 14 - October 26 2019. My work for the exhibition included 3 large sculptures and 25 small table top sculptures. Our Artist group met while in residence at the Vermont Studio Center in July 2018. Though our work is diverse in approach, media, and content; through conversation we quickly realized a connection in how our work is influenced by living in Texas and produced through the lens of being university educators. We address environmental, identity and political issues. We choose to educate and inform our viewers on content larger than the individual making the work.
