Abstract

Reaction of [Mo(η5-C5H5)(CO)3]2 with t-Bu2PH or Me2AsH yields {[Mo(η5-C5H5(CO)2]2(μ-H)(μ-ER2)}, where E = P, R = t-Bu (1) (45%); or E = As, R = Me (2) (35%). The X-ray crystal structures of 1 and 2 have been determined. Each complex contains a central planar Mo2(E)(H) core and the co-ordination geometry about each Mo is best described as a "four-legged stool" in which adjacent H and P (or As) atoms are shared. The positions of the bridging hydrogen atoms are symmetrical to within experimental error.
