Abstract
Implementation of the optimal control law to regulator feedback problems requires reconstruction of the inaccessible states of the system. However, if the available state variables are sufficient for stabilizing the system and if simplicity is desirable as against the complexity of constructing an observer, a suboptimal linear regulator can be designed with the available state variables only. This paper reviews some important methods for reconstructing unavailable states and proposes a new method for designing control systems with inaccessible states. The suggested procedure utilizes a reduced order model of the original system. The concept is illustrated by a numerical example.
