Abstract
Currently, deep structural insight to understand the rapidly advancing discoveries of new and varied functions of glycoconjugates in biological systems is often missing. Thus, the recent advances in oligosaccharide synthesis and the means to intercept carbohydrate biosynthetic pathways provide considerable rationale for an accelerated development of new therapeutics and vaccines based on sugar-sugar and sugar-lectin interactions. Simultaneously, the field is now being rapidly transformed through the availability of new structural tools and analytical methodologies.
