abstract = "A database was assembled from Unconsolidated Undrained (UU) triaxial, Direct Simple Shear (DSS) and Ko-consolidated triaxial extension (CKoUE) tests on normally consolidated undisturbed clay samples from the Gulf of Mexico. Two key soil parameters, strain ε50 and stiffness ratio E50/Su for soil lateral behavior under lateral loading were investigated. The strain ε50 and stiffness ratio (E50/Su) values do not show any appreciable trend with undrained shear strength and plasticity index. Compared toUUtest, direct simple shear and Ko-consolidated extension tests are more relevant to the lateral behavior of clay around the laterally loaded pile. The most expected values of the strain ε50 and stiffness ratio (E50/Su) are 1% and 100, respectively, irrespective of undrained shear strength and plasticity index.",
