Abstract

Statistical damage documentation was conducted in Hurricanes Charley and Ivan which impacted the costal areas of Florida in 2004. The purpose of these exercises was to assess usability of PDA format to collect data and to ascertain viability of algorithm and data format. In hurricane Charley 28 residential structures out of a population of 228 were documented in two locations; for Hurricane Ivan the documentation was for 43 structures in the population of 258 at three locations. The paper discusses the experiences of using the PDA format to document damage that can be used for statistical analysis. In addition, an outline of the documentation algorithm is given.
