Abstract
A number of experimental studies have been conducted to date to investigate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear with externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets over the last two decades. However, most existing experimental studies used small-scale specimens, and thus, analytical models and design equations developed from those studies may not predict accurately the shear strength of full-scale RC beams strengthened in shear with FRPs. Furthermore, the experimental studies on the size effect of RC beams strengthened in shear with FRPs are very limited. Therefore, this study examined the size effect of the shear capacity of concrete beams strengthened in shear with externally bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets through an experimental program consisting of six geometrically similar RC beams with three different effective depths. The results showed that a size effect was present amongst the test beams.
