Abstract

Salt of the Earth: Bangarra Dance Theatre Thrills with 20th Anniversary Production Under the Artistic Direction of Stephen Page, Bangarra Dance Theatre prides itself on producing contemporary dance works that speak to the native Aboriginal culture of Australia. Aiming to carry on the traditions and integrity of the Aboriginal people, Page hires dancers who are not only of the highest caliber technically, but also must be of Aboriginal descent. BDT's winter program, "of earth and sky," ran July 22-28 in the Sydney Opera House in Australia to a full and enthusiastic house on opening night. A visually stunning display of easy grace and fluid control punctuated the unique power of this company in two works that channeled both organic serenity and fierce loyalty.
