Residency Program - Anderson Center at Tower View

Research output: Non-textual formOther

From an international applicant pool, Lando Valdez and I were offered a one-month residency at the Anderson Center at Tower View. The program granted us a 15'x26' studio and full room and board in the historic manor of A.P. Anderson. In October 2021 (postponed from our original appointment in July 2020, with the support and generosity of the TTU SoA and Anderson Center administrations), we ran our practice there, spending no less than eight hours in the studio each day. While maintaining such intense productivity, I taught my TTU classes remotely, and carried out my duties as Painting Area Coordinator and MFA Program Coordinator. We further benefitted from sustained dialogue with our fellow residents, Ann Arbor-based novelist Karen Smyte and Minneapolis-based poet Preeti Kaur Rajpal, whose research interests paralleled and complemented our own. Additionally, in the interest of community and outreach, we conducted studio visits with local artists.
