Abstract
A new multi-helix soil anchor with improved performance in various soil types was designed for tents and deployable structures. The anchor design developed in this project has innovative features that lower the installation force and improve the ease-of-use of the anchor. Extensive field and laboratory investigations were performed to determine the reliability, drivability, ease-of-installation, and uplift capacity of the soil anchor. The performance characteristics of this new anchor design were found to excel those of anchors (steel pins and wood stakes) commonly used with tents and deployable structures. The new anchor design met the targeted performance requirements in a broader soil type spectrum.
