Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

This study investigates some major Southwestern American women architects and artists who challenged prevailing norms at the turn of the 20th century to achieve international fame in their fields. In each case, the influences the Arts and Crafts Movement and the Reform Movement are considered and how these had differing effects on Native and Non-Native American women. The presentation compares strategies, societal influences, and personal choices made by each woman regarding race, gender, and the social, economic, and political realities of the time.
