Quadratic differentials of real algebraic curves

Abstract

The goal of this note is to interpret real algebraic curves as<br>trajectories of meromorphic quadratic differentials defined on<br>appropriate Riemann surfaces. Since the topological structure of<br>trajectories of such quadratic differentials is well understood,<br>our interpretation may be useful in the classification problem for<br>these curves. To demonstrate how our approach works, we apply it<br>to the simplest non-trivial case of real algebraic curves; i.e. to<br>conics.
