Abstract

Texas Tech University has embarked on a new course of interdisciplinary undergraduate education. Integrative studies develops students critical thinking skills by giving them a universal understanding of how to work collaboratively to solve complex problems, generate new ideas, and evaluate situations from new and multiple perspectives. Integrative thinkers are people who see the importance of lifelong learning as a means to conjoining their experiences into a tapestry of knowledge, information and perspectives which are always evolving and changing. The result is that integrative knowledge gives people the ability compete in a complex and multifaceted world because their all-inclusive learning provides them with insights which other forms of education may fail to do.
