Abstract
The Polymer Segment Modeling Approach is presented, and it addresses the following issues in the modeling of polymerization processes: 1) characterization of polymers in simulation, 2) representation of the physical properties of polymer systems, and 3) modeling of the kinetics of polymerization reactions. It can be applied to common polymerization processes, as has been successfully demonstrated using the ASPEN PLUS simulator for PET, and also for an industrially important GE polyester process. In addition, a physical property constant estimation system was found to be essential for obtaining estimates of polymer property parameters.
