Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

Primer Scale and Arpeggio Fingerings was written to prepare inexperienced players for the more "professional" fingerings of Miraculous Scale and Miraculous Arpeggio Fingerings. Primer Scale and Arpeggio Fingerings. These fingerings utilize open strings, keep shifts to a minimum, and stay in lower positions, (usually half, first, or second Simandl positions when possible), and there is only one fingering for each scale or arpeggio. All twelve keys are arranged in ascending chromatic order. For the keys E to A, there are two 1-octave fingerings, and one 2-octave fingering. All higher keys extend only one octave. Fingerings that require a shift are indicated with a large, bold number, those that do not are notated with a small, fine number. In 52 pages, Primer Scale and Arpeggio Fingerings will acquaint new players with the sound and construction of major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and chromatic scales, as well as major, minor, and dominant 7 arpeggios in all keys.
