Potential biomass production from recycled wastewater

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticle

Abstract

As a possible alternative to recycling animal manures by application to crop land, the multiple-use concept shows promise. To allow water to be used multiple times, it is necessary to treat the used water to a level suitable to sustain the development and growth of various products. A modular production system concept illustrates how water recycling can be used to integrate businesses. For example, wastewater generated by livestock can be reused by letting algae consume the bacteria in the wastewater. The generated biomass can be converted to electricity through a gasifier system.
