In this paper, a simple and efficient procedure for plastic-hinge analysis of flexible-jointed frames is presented. In this procedure, each member of a framed structure can undergo arbitrarily large rigid rotations and moderately large axial stretch and relative point-wise rotations. A plastic-hinge method, with assumed stress resultant approach, is employed to derive the tangent stiffness matrices explicitly. Several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the present method. The method is of considerable utility in analyzing large space structures and off-shore structures.
