Abstract

In this paper, we present a planar perforated dielectric surface wave antenna with high directivity and wide bandwidth. The proposed antenna is practically realizable and composed of a grounded quarter of a dielectric cylinder with a low-profile corner reflector. The permittivity of the quarter dielectric cylinder is gradually tapered by drilling air holes with different radii. Simulation results using ANSYS HFSS software reveal the proposed antenna to have a directive radiation pattern with directivity better than 8.1 dB. Results also show that a fractional impedance bandwidth of more than 42% can be achieved with this design.
