Optic phonons in nickel hydride

Abstract

Incoherent-inelastic-neutron-scattering techniques were used to determine the optical-phonon density of states in nickel hydride at room temperature. The sample was prepared under a hydrogen pressure of 7 kbar and the scattering measurement performed in situ at the same pressure. The resulting spectrum shows a sharp peak at 88 0.7 meV along with a broad shoulder extending to about 110 meV. These results are discussed with reference to the analogous PdHx system.
