N2 - Controllability and observability are considered using the graph-theoretic concepts of reachability and structural-controllability. The relationships between controllability and input-reachability, observability and output-reachability are fully explored. The concepts of input- and output-reachability as defined by Siljak are shown to be of greater usefulness in determining which individual states are uncontrollable or unobservable, which inputs and/or outputs are redundant.
