Abstract
Problems of measurement in single step stress relaxation experiments on polymer glasses, rubber and polymer melts or solutions were addressed by performing normal force measurements and torsion testing using a rheological instrument equipped with a force rebalance transducer. Studies were done on cylindrical rod samples of polystyrene and polymethyl methacrylate. The possibilities of modifying the experimental procedures or sample geometry to solve the problems were also discussed.
