Abstract

The annual Techtextil Frankfurt, an international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, will be organized by MesseFrankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany, from June 2007. The fair will present a full range of technical textiles and nonwovens, from research and development to production, processing, and recycling. The technical textiles industry is expected to reach $125 billion by 2010, with an increasing annual growth of 3%-4%. The general technical textiles industry can be divided into 12 segments such as Agritech, Protech, and Geotech, while several major sectors where nonwoven fabrics find application include automotive, medical, military, and filtration. Several research activities are taking place to develop natural fiber-based materials for the automotive industry. Various general applications for nonwovens in the medical sector include surgical gowns, facemasks, and medical furnishings. Different nonwovens can be designed to have high-tech applications and can enter into value-added markets based on performance, properties, and end use applications.
