Abstract
The microcrystalline properties and ferroelectric phase transition in Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (PZT) were investigated. Chemically derived powders prepared at moderate temperatures showed large non-uniform strains sufficient to completely suppress the characteristic anomaly in specific heat at the transition. It was proposed that lattice defects interacting with the spontaneous polarization were responsible for this behavior.
