Abstract

My chapter, titled "Mestizaje: Forging Identity thought Hybridity" is published in Young Adult Literature and Adolescent Identity Across Cultures and Classrooms: Contexts for the Literary Lives of Teens edited by Janet Alsup. In it I write about how Mexican American young adults use a language whose word/usage origins are in English and Spanish but at once is completely separate from them to construct their own distinct identities, and that these identity themes are found in much Mexican American YA fiction and poetry.
