Abstract
In this chapter, the authors describe the practice of Medical Family Therapy in Alcohol and Drug Treatment. They begin by characterizing the common make-up(s) and organization of integrated and interdisciplinary teams in this type of environment, and contextualize the work according to Hodgson et al.’s (2014) five-level MedFT healthcare continuum. They describe research-informed practices and case examples representative of Alcohol & Drug Treatment, and highlight core MedFT competencies essential to effective clinical conduct. Additional practice scenarios, discussion questions, and recommended readings are presented in conclusion. The primary audience for the proposed text is mental health professionals who are training, researching, and designing policy for the practice of MedFT and family-centered care.
