Maintaining a Long-Term Frozen Semen Storage Tank

Abstract

Long-term storage of stallion's frozen semen should be done by a facility that has the capability to continuously monitor liquid nitrogen levels in the semen tanks. Tanks should be monitored a minimum of once per week for liquid nitrogen level and should be examined daily for any signs of failure. This chapter discusses step by step procedure for storing the frozen semen in the semen storage tank. It discusses precautions, and lists equipment and supplies needed to store the semen in the storage tank.
