Abstract

Loves Me, Loves Me Not: Pilobolus Highlights Love's Complicated Layers at American Dance Festival Pilobolus, best known for daring feats of strength, charmingly witty shadow play, and universally understood expressions of the human body, once again kept adoring audiences on the edges of their seats July 1-3 at the Durham Performing Arts Center. American Dance Festival's 2010 season entitled "What is Dance Theatre?" has clearly inspired the Artistic Directors of Pilobolus to experiment in new realms of theatre/dance fusion. The two new works presented this year further solidify Pilobolus as one of the most original and influential forces in the dance world. Commissioned in part by the American Dance Festival, the World Premiere of "Contradance" choreographed by Renee Jaworksi and Matt Kent, whisks us away to a world where two unlikely misfits find perfection in each other. Dressed in whimsical variations of gypsy attire, a ragtag family of friends approaches a bashful stranger crouch
