Abstract

Six new Listening Guides were contributed to the new 2013 edition of Reebee Garofalo's Rock and Roll History Textbook 'Rockin' Out." These are to appear in addition to the forty-one Listening Guides Dr. Mariani contributed to the 2007 and 2010 editions. Published by Pearson-Prentice Hall, this is the textbook used by Texas Tech's large-enrollment History of Rock and Roll class. Prof. Mariani was invited / commissioned by Pearson to write these Listening Guides (forty-one for the textbook and forty-one for the companion website.) Each Listening Guide refers to a specific musical piece, and contains a brief socio-historical background, musical style notes, and a timing grid that guides the student/reader moment-by-moment through the piece as they listen.
