Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a model that can be used for system selection and performance analysis of cogeneration systems and conventional energy systems application in commercial buildings. The approach is composed of an energy simulation model to generate a building's energy demand, a life cycle assessment (LCA) model to model different energy systems, and an optimization model to optimize the selection and operation of the energy systems. The performance criteria presented in this paper are global warming potential (GWP) and primary energy consumption.
