Abstract

For a successful service-learning project, stimulating student teams is important. Different fields of interest and knowledge levels are challenges for instructors in designing a project that will achieve the desired goals. The objective of this study is to identify the factors that will stimulate interest for a team of students. Based on a literature review, all attributes that stimulate interest are identified. A survey that consists of these factors was administered to service-learning instructors. Instructors completed the survey based on their experience in teaching service-learning courses. This paper discusses the results from the survey and recommendations are made based on the results. Several avenues for future studies are discussed as well.
