Pine voles Microtus pinetorum trapped from two Virginia orchards (one maintained, one abandoned) at two times of the year (November and January) had lead concentrations in their carcasses measured. Lead concentrations were significantly greater in adult voles (P < 0·01) and in voles captured in January (P < 0·05), indicating that accumulations increased with age.
