Silica aerogel and partially densified silica aerogels were doped with Mn 2+ in order to study by electron paramagnetic resonance the interaction of metal with the glassy network. Different methods were used for doping. EPR absorption is simulated with the sum of a sextet at g=2-001 ± 0.001 with a hyperfine splitting A=95±1 G and a broad line near g = 2.001. These spectra are sensitive to the densities of materials and water pressure. Results show that the paramagnetic probe interacts with the sample surface. EPR spectra, recorded during hydration of the samples, are also analysed.
