Abstract

An experimental paradigm is proposed for the measurement of time histories of eye movements and vehicle trajectories during simulator driving. Eye movements, both distance of eye movement and numbers of fixations, along with car log data were recorded as participants maneuvered through an urban road scenario that included turning through an intersection. Eye movements during a traffic event did show how and on what the driver focused their visual attention during specific traffic events, such as right and left turns. Another analysis was conducted linking vehicle trajectory and driver eye movements. Using an integrated analysis of video clips, vehicle trajectory, and time histories of eye movements enables a better determination of the possibility for an accident occurrence.
