Abstract

People seek information concerning a vacation or pleasure trip before, during, and following a vacation. Despite substantial research concerning the information sources used by many tourists, little is known about some of the influences upon the search behavior of industrial tourists. A study of people who visited one type of industrial tourist site found that there were several main sources that were used. In addition, a number of variables including their attitude before their visit, number of previous visits, product involvement, and demographic variables influenced individual information sources and the total information sources used. Implications for managers include targeting specific demographic groups with certain types of information, and the need to use several different types of information sources to reach industrial tourists.
