Abstract
The ASCE 7-95 standard contains new wind load provisions for buildings and other structures. This is a major revision from the provisions published in ANSI A 58.1-1982 and subsequently contained in ASCE 7-93. There are several additional items included in the recent provisions as new and improved data are available from research conducted over the past fifteen years. The most significant change is the use of 3-second gust as basic wind speed. This change in the definition of wind speed affects several other factors in the wind load calculations. This paper discusses the impact of the use of 3-second gust speed.
