Harvesting and Shipping Testes

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The unexpected death of a stallion may result in the loss of genetic material if the owners do not have previously frozen semen. It is possible to harvest the testes and to isolate spermatozoa from the tail of the epididymis and vas deferens for assisted reproductive techniques or for artificial insemination from a stallion prior to euthanasia or immediately at death. This chapter summarizes step by step procedure for harvesting and shipping testes of the stallion, and lists the equipment and supplies needed.
