Abstract
Process planning is to convert the design specifications to the manufacturing instructions called process plans to make parts to the specifications. The goal of process planning is to make the manufacturing precise and economical. However, the economy of manufacture and the increase in the over-all accuracy of many products can be greatly improved by the use of specified datums for positioning purpose. This paper presents a graphical method for datum and setup selection according to the design tolerance specifications to generate process plans.
