Abstract

We report a study of the elastic properties of a novel graphene nano-sandwich structure in which a CVD graphene single layer is sandwiched between two ultrathin polymer films. The elastic response and interfacial shear strength are determined using a nano-bubble inflation method. In addition, we have examined the dynamic mechanical response of a graphene oxide/poly(ethyl methacrylate) nanocomposite and find that the predominant reinforcement is a change in the viscoelastic properties of the material due to the graphene oxide's impact on the glass transition temperature on the polymer.
