Abstract
The impact of the prevailing adverse global economic conditions on the Indian textile industry is discussed. Industry analysts suggest that the Indian industry needs to take advantage of the prevailing conditions around the world and plan for better growth in the future. It needs to plan for the lack of growth in developed economies and concentrate on a number of measures for better growth and development. It needs to plan for diversification with the help of the technical textiles industry that offers a solution. Technical textiles sector offers scope for small and medium scale entrepreneurs to diversify their businesses and record better growth. This sector takes the nonwovens and the raw materials, converting them into end-use products, such as filters, training pads, and other products. The domestic textile industry also needs to increase incentives for R&D in the technical textiles sector to achieve these objectives.
