N2 - Phasor measurement units (PMUs) provide a great venue for visualizing the events in power systems. Optimal PMU placement (OPP) problem has been extensively investigated by researchers using various optimization techniques. In this paper, a generalized method for formulation of OPP problem for a practical case is presented when SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) measurement is already present on the network and PMUs have limited number of channels. The method has also been extended to placement problems on various scenarios, e.g., degree of unobservability, measurement losses etc.
