Abstract

This paper presents an active suspension for a quarter-car model with two Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) using a fractional PIλD μ controller. The active control is expressed as the summation of PIλ and PDμ, which use vertical acceleration of the body and suspension deflection, respectively, as input variables. The parameters of the controller are optimised using a Genetic Algorithm (GA). The simulation results indicate that the fractional PIλD μ controller for the suspension system is effective in the vibration isolation of the vehicle body and has better performance than the classical PID controller.
