Abstract

This chapter describes multiple frameworks that are useful in the teaching of scholarly writing, with a particular focus on how students can effectively and systematically consume research in order to identify implications for practice, policy, and future research. Though matters of research, scholarship, and academic writing may be more relevant to graduate students who are required to produce new knowledge in the form of theses and dissertations, the frameworks and related principles and practices discussed in this chapter would be relevant to those who instruct undergraduates on such matters as well. The frameworks summarized herein are designed to help instructors describe (a) the knowledge consumption processes students will need to go through to review the literature on a topic of their interest and (b) the kinds of scholarly arguments that can (and should) be made as a result of students’ literature review efforts.
